Friends of BOS, an independent people led vibrant movement mobilising support for the re-election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as Governor of Lagos in the 2023 gubernatorial election has unveiled plans for its “G57” youth mobilisation initiative.
Friends of BOS working in collaboration with numerous support organisations was at the forefront of mobilising support for Governor Sanwo-Olu during the 2019 campaign and has since 2019 been involved in showcasing numerous achievements of the Governor Sanwo-Olu administration across Lagos State.
In a statement by Henry Balogun, Convener, Friends of BOS, the organisation stated that, beyond mobilising support to ensure the re-election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the Lagos 2023 gubernatorial elections, BOS G57 will mobilise support for an emerging generation of young political and social actors in Nigeria, who are championing the cause for political inclusion, representation, democratic change, accountability and social justice.
The statement further stated, “FrIends of BOS is aware that the dynamics of Nigeria’s political landscape has changed, Governor Sanwo-Olu understands this fact and will ensure that emerging political actors are supported and integrated into the APC and given the opportunity to be part of the party and thrive.”
The mission which is primarily to reach and mobilise youths at the grassroots across all Local Governments and Local Government Development Areas in Lagos will also extend to reach youths online, via social media and mobile channels.
Statewide strategy meetings are planned for focal persons in all Local Government as well as with Community Associations around the State.
Since the swearing-in of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Governor of Lagos on May 29, 1999 and through successive APC led administrations of Babatunde Raji Fashola (2007-2015), Akinwunmi Ambode (2015-2019) and Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2019, Lagos has been undergoing a renaissance and urban renewal with numerous transformational and legacy infrastructure projects and reforms already completed over the years and many underway in all sectors, across the 5 divisions of Lagos and all Local Governments.
Lagos has under four successive and successful APC administrations, continued to witness visible widespread transformational change, either in terms of the scale of massive infrastructure projects, urban regeneration activity or a shift in perception. The Governor Babajide led administration has continued to build on this legacy.
The foundation for Lagos’ current political and economic development was laid in 1999 by the administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu which actually set the pace and put in place the development template as he and his team commenced work on the Lagos Master Plan and the 10-Point Development Agenda which subsequent governments in the state have continued to build on. The legacy of good governance enshrined in the state continues to grow as the baton of leadership and transformational leadership passed from Tinubu to Fashola to Ambode and to Sanwo-Olu.
Subsequent governments under Governor Babatunde Fashola, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and Governor Sanwo-Olu have continued to work within the frame work of the Lagos Development Master-plan for a mega city since 1999 and Lagos state has since enjoyed the dividends of the master-plan while also blessed and endowed with visionary and pro active leadership.
This is evident by numerous projects across the state which started under previous administrations which the current administration of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has completed and continued to creatively improve on, as well as new socio-economic and innovative transformational initiatives by the Sanwo-Olu led administration. This is the beauty of continuity as Lagosians are now certain that there is no fear of ongoing projects being abandoned.
This is further made possible because there is a genuine unity of purpose and an agenda which breeds accountability.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been able to deliver on his mandate as he measures his performance against the backdrop of his vision and purpose as set out in the THEMES Agenda as well as gauging the pulse of the people for feedback on their performance through various medium such as the town hall meeting, community interaction programmes and online survey among others.
Large scale development projects across the state are dramatically improving how areas around the state are perceived, making them more desirable places to live and work, and better able to attract new people and businesses.
Our journey to a greater Lagos has started and every Lagosian is invited. Our aim is to reach youth across Lagos for active participation in politics and we are extending an open invitation to Lagos youth to join the APC, be part of the campaign and support Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a second term as Governor of Lagos.
Plans are also underway to launch the ABAT-G774, a grassroots and social movement in all Local Government Areas around Nigeria mobilising support and resources to ensure the election of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as President in the the 2023 elections.
