The reason why Bola Tinubu May Get 24million Votes To Win The 2023 Presidential Election

Preparations for the 2023 presidential election have reached top gear in the Bola Tinubu camp, following the recent launch of a pro-Tinubu group, South West Agenda for 2023 (SWAGA’23).
Though the former Lagos State Governor is yet to publicly declare his interest in the presidential contest, there are enough indications to show that he will run for the presidency. The SWAGA’28 was set up to mobilise votes for Tinubu ahead of the 2023 election, which is less than two years away.
Shortly after the launch of SWAGA’23 in Lagos, a top All Progressives Congress Senator told Punch that Tinubu has a guaranteed 12 million votes in the bag from the South-West ahead of 2023. This means Tinubu may amass up to 24million votes in 2023, enough to see him win the Presidential election.
How can he get 24 million? That shall be the focus of this article.
Why Tinubu may get at least 24 million votes in 2023
From all indications, the APC is most likely to settle for a Southern presidential candidate. Specifically, the pendulum is pointing in the direction of the South West. This puts Tinubu in a pole position to secure the party’s ticket because he is by far the strongest candidate from the South West.
And with Tinubu as APC’s candidate, it means he is most likely to receive the support and vote of Buhari’s 12 million strong die-hard supporters. Buhari’s 12million supporters have been consistent in voting for APC’s candidates in the last two election cycles, and they are very much rooting for the party ahead of the 2023 election.
In essence, with APC sure of getting 12million votes from the North, added to another allegedly guaranteed 12million votes in the South West, it means 24million likely votes for Tinubu.
This projection means Tinubu will probably emerge as Nigeria’s president because Buhari only needed 15million votes to win the 2015 and 2019 elections. This means Tinubu may get 5million votes more than Buhari needed to claim victory.
But it is important to stress that nothing is cast in stone. There have been speculations that Buhari’s supporters may not be enthusiastic about voting for a Southern candidate.
More so, there are also insinuations that Tinubu may not give APC the mandate to fly APC’s flag at the presidential election on the grounds of religion. So there is still a lot of politicking going on.
